Signs and Symptoms of Hypothyroidism | Prevention Tips | Dr. Sharad Kasarle | Yogic Secrets

Hypothyroidism

Before I start speaking on Hypothyroidism
I will like to greet you all with Good moringa instead of good morning

Good moringa is nothing but the remembrance of two super wonder medicinal plants that are Guduchi and Moringa

The thyroid is a small gland located in the base of your neck sometimes described as butterfly shape. Meanwhile at the base of the brain states the pituitary gland which secretes the thyroid-stimulating hormone that is TSH

Changes to your metabolism, heart function, digestion, energy, appetite, sleep, mood, or even the growth of the hair, skin, and nail can all be caused by hypothyroidism.

If you face severe hair fall or premature growing of hair that can also be associated with hypothyroidism. Some of the warning signs quickly we have a look at

Fatigue which is chronic in nature, depression and anxiety, weight gain i.e. sudden weight gain.

If you notice you are gaining weight rapidly, infertility, goiter includes at the base of the neck sometimes accompanied by tightness in the throat, coughing and swelling, feeling cold or chilled most of the time, constipation, muscle ache and tenderness, kidney-related problems, stiffness and swelling in the joints, trouble breathing.

So most of the covid-19 symptoms trouble breathing, then you have a sore throat or coughing, feeling chilled, or even feeling feverish.

These are also related to thyroid disorder dysfunction.

A thyroid condition known as Hashimoto thyroiditis is associated with an increased risk for thyroid cancer. This disease is also the most common cause of hypothyroidism.

Around 1 in 5 cases of thyroid cancer occur in people who had a previous denying condition for unclaimed reasons like all diseases of the thyroid occur about 3 times more often in women than in men.

Thyroid cancer can occur at any age but the risk peaks earlier in women in their 40’s and 50’s and for men in their 60’s and 70’s.
Most patients with thyroid cancer have cancer obtained in the thyroid and at the time of diagnosis.

About 30% have metastatic cancer with most having a spread of cancer to the lymph nodes in the neck and only 1 to 4% having spread of cancer outside of the neck to other organs such as lungs and bones.

Now let’s say how this hypothyroidism can be treated well on time to avoid future complications to understand that we will see potential causes of that first

Causes of hypothyroidism

When someone has Hashimoto’s their own body essentially begins to attack itself by producing antibodies that try to destroy the thyroid gland.

Why does this happen?
The immune system mistakenly thinks that the thyroid cells are not a part of the body. So it tried to remove them before they start to damage and illness.
So thyroid hormone your body treats as the foreign element and tries to destroy that thyroid hormone which is a very very concerning factor.

A diet low in nutritionally rich foods especially iodine and selenium which are trace minerals and crucial for thyroid function and increase the risk for hypothyroid disorders.
The thyroid glands need both iodine and selenium to produce adequate levels of thyroid hormones.

These nutrients also play other protective roles in the body for example severe selenium deficiency increases the incidence of thyroiditis because it stops the activity of very powerful antioxidants known as glutathione which normally controls inflammation and fights oxidative stress.

Getting on track with a hypothyroidism diet ensures that you get an appropriate amount of selenium and iodine in your diet.

Gut inflammation that is normally known as leaky gut syndrome is another responsible cause of hypothyroidism.

Although it’s not very common, newborns are born with some dysfunction of the thyroid gland with a genetic condition called congenital hypothyroidism.

During pregnancy, one has to take care of thyroid hormone levels and hypothyroidism during pregnancy can be very very dangerous for newborn infants as well.
Specific medication leads to the frequent development of inactive thyroid.

The most common of these include drugs that treat cancer. Even chemotherapy and radiation can be very very dangerous with respect to the functioning of the thyroid hormone.

High levels of emotional stress that I always define that damages the harmony of hormone function.
We have 50 different types of hormones in which 8 crucial hormones which are insulin, glucagon, thyroid, leptin, dopamine, serotonin, melatonin, estrogen, and progesterone These are the 2 main important estrogens, and progesterone is very vital in women, and this harmony of these hormones is very important and the stress disturbs harmony.

Exercise is very essential to take care of your stress levels and manage the healthy functioning of hormones.

Research suggests that regular exercise usually gets better sleep, deals with stress better, and more often maintains a healthier weight.

All of it reduces some of the biggest risk factors and symptoms associated with hypothyroidism.

Now let’s look at the medical nutrient recommendation

Now there are most people who approach me with an elevated level of TSH which are crossing more than 10 even 15 or 20

We need to understand nutritional deficiencies like deficiency of vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D3. Vitamin C is a precursor of collagen so supplementing collagen or vitamin C helps largely with patients suffering from hypothyroidism.

Triphala and Brahmi as I mentioned leaky gut syndrome Triphala corrects and cleanses the gut’s colon and boosts your gut function and enhances the brain function and Brahmi also boosts the brain function and gut function.

Aerobic exercise may help boost your thyroid hormone levels in turn they may help speed up your metabolism as well proteins that help you largely like paneer, pulses, dals, lentils, eggs, cheese, etc as they are beneficial for hypothyroidism patients

Steam hot rice with plenty of vegetables and dals is the best food for such patients. Fresh vegetable soup can also be beneficial and spiced buttermilk, especially between meals when you feel hungry.

As I mentioned, apart from iodine and selenium, zinc is the essential mineral that needs to be supplemented with patients suffering from this.

MCT coconut oil which is our super specialty in our research known as amruta ditailum is highly recommended in hypothyroidism as it boosts metabolism, absorption, and assimilation of nutrients and it also corrects the thyroid hormone that is TSH levels can be largely reduced by consuming 10 to 15mL twice daily with warm water.

MCT oil can be added over poha or upma 1 tbsp of coconut oil which wonderfully increases the taste.

Shatavari can be best recommended for women’s hormonal imbalance and also treat hypothyroidism.

Small bananas have a lot of nutrients beneficial for hypothyroidism, avoid millets like bajra and totally stop wheat, pasta, noodles in case of a very high level of TSH that I recommend which works best but occasionally one can have.

Strictly avoid the following during hypothyroidism

  • Foods that contain gluten, bread, pasta, cereals, alcoholic beverages like beer to be avoided.
  • Smoking to be totally stopped
  • Sour foods to be avoided like tofo, temfe, etc,
  • Certain fruits like peaches, pears, strawberries to be avoided
  • one can have avla which is really a sanjeevini for us

Hope this audio is beneficial for you
